If you file a medical claim with HR Benefits, the University has the right to send you to see one of their specialists. From time to time, our members have objected to the behaviour of some of these specialists and the way they conducted themselves.

PAY EQUITY BULLETIN

Pay Equity on the shoulder - tow-trucks needed.

As reported to the membership last June, we had expected to meet with the mediator appointed by the Quebec Pay Equity Commission, Ms Lucie Corney, last summer. The meeting was postponed till the fall, and then the winter. We finally had the opportunity to meet all day with Ms. Corney and two lawyers on the file, Annick Desjardins and Johanne Drolet, on January 22, 2010. Me Desjardins has been generously "donated" to us by CUPE, for which we are extremely grateful, and Me Drolet is a senior lawyer with our law firm, Melançon, Marceau, Grenier & Sciortino. They are both extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the legislation, the workings of the Commission, as well as our specific situation at McGill.

LOYALTY TO THE EMPLOYER

 

We work for a university, and as such there is a greater tolerance for free expression of opinions than in some workplaces. We sometimes have disagreements with our employer, McGill University, and during a negotiation period, these disputes may be more frequent and even heated. It is normal to want to express these disagreements and to discuss them with our colleagues and even other staff and students.
