Pension Plan Update

MUNACA Challenges Unilateral Pension Plan Changes

Yesterday MUNACA filed two legal challenges to McGill’s upcoming Pension Plan changes. McGill has announced it intends to unilaterally change our Plan by no longer offering annuities to retiring members after December 31, 2010.

MUNACA requested the Régie des rentes—which administers the Plan—to refuse to register the change since the Plan is legally considered part of our collective agreement. According to the Supplemental Pension Plan Act the union must agree to the proposed changes, which it has not done.

MUNACA also filed a grievance contesting the announced change. We are committed to pursuing all appropriate means to stop McGill from further degrading our Pension Plan, or making any other changes whatsoever without the union’s consent. We will keep you posted on any developments.

Incentives to retire

Members should be aware that the University is willing to offer certain members significant financial incentives to retire. Members eligible for AND interested in retiring should ask their supervisor or local APO whether they will offer such an incentive.
