What’s been happening…

June 8, AGM

MUNACA held its Annual General Assembly. A warm show of thanks and appreciation were offered to the outgoing Executive Board (Kevin Whittaker, Lynda Bray, Jane McAslan, David Roseman and David Kalant) for their many accomplishments and leadership during the previous seven years. (Read the note of thanks from the outgoing Executive.)

The incoming Executive Board (Thomas Chalmers, Andreas Gadmer, Nancy Crowe, David Roseman and Colby Briggs) saluted them and pledged to build on and continue their legacy. Quorum was attained to vote on some important matters. The new Executive Board will work with the new AMUSE Executive Committee to finalize the political merger of the two unions in the coming months. June 16, The Shane Smith Memorial BBQ – MUNACA, AMUSE and AMURE held a joint annual spring barbecue. Special recognition was given to MUNACA member, Shane Smith, who died suddenly in March, 2016. He was a steady fixture at union barbecues, an assistant picket captain during the 2011 strike, and a dear friend and colleague to many in the McGill Bookstore, libraries and campus. Three of his children, Danny, Teagan and Shanaya, came to the BBQ and received tributes from past and current Executive Boards, as well as Shane’s MUNACA friends. A fourth child, Robin, was unable to come. The three children received an engraved, high-end BBQ tool set with an engraved plaque from MUNACA, in honour of their father.
