Parallel Lives
Captain Badawy Sha’ath (aka T-Council rep and MUNACA steward) spent a tour of duty with the Canadian Armed Forces, assisting with the resettlement of Syrian refugees. As a reserve officer, he was posted for three months (January-March, 2016) at the Valcartier Camp, near Quebec City, and later in Montreal, acting as interpreter (Arabic and French).
While he did not work personally with the Syrians, he supported the military in their work, ensuring that the Arabic signage and text were accurate. The refugees began arriving just when winter temperatures were minus 30C. Badawy was impressed by the hardworking and dedicated staff who welcomed the refugees, gave them health checkups, and dealt with relocation and administrative processing.
We can all be proud of Badawy’s work and are glad to have him as union rep!
