Parallel Lives

MAY 8TH POSTERPatricia Nellissen works in the McLennan Interlibrary Loan Service but after work, she’s a gigging musician.  Come hear her group, The Mojo Blues Band, play at their May 8 concert!

JM:  Hi Patricia! In your parallel life, I understand you’re a drummer in a band. How long have you been playing the drums?

PN:  Well, I got my first drum kit when I was eight years old. I played in my first band when I was 14, playing classic rock. Over the years, I’ve played in rock, heavy metal, punk, alternative, and blues bands.

JM:  What’s your band’s name, and how long have you been involved in that?

PN:  The name of my band is The Mojo Blues Band. Me and the boys have been playing together since October 2015. I answered an ad on KIJIJI, I auditioned and got the gig! We are a trio with Kosta on guitar/vocals, and Rick Johnson on bass/vocals. We play classic blues, such as Muddy Waters, Albert King, B.B King, Freddy King, Buddy Guy etc … and also on the heavier side, some Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Anthony Gomez, Gary Moore, Walter Trout, and heavy on the Stevie Ray Vaughan.

JM:  How do you find fitting in your music around your work schedule?

PN:  We try and book gigs on Friday or Saturday nights. We jam once a week at the studio from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., so it’s really not a problem.

JM:  Finally, when’s your next gig?

PN:  Our next gig is on May 8th at Smoke Meat Pete in L’Île-Perrot from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Hope to see you there!
