Principal’s Awards for Administrative and Support Staff
MUNACA is proud of its members who have been honoured by the Principal’s Awards for Administrative and Support Staff. We know our work is crucial to McGill, and it’s great to see that recognized. Here is an interview with Jennifer Wallace – Winner in the Library and Technical category
comMUNACAtions: Congratulations on having won the Principal’s Award in the Library and Technical category. What are your thoughts on this win?
Jennifer Wallace: To be honest, it came as a complete shock to me. I work really hard, so it’s nice to feel appreciated.
C: Can you briefly describe your work and initiatives that have made a difference?
JW: I work in the science lab in the Faculty of Education with students studying to be elementary and secondary school teachers. I work alongside a number of professors and ensure that the labs are setup properly and help out during lab times.
C: What part of your work do you find most rewarding?
JW: I really enjoy working with the students and coming up with new ideas on how to keep them engaged.
C: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
JW: I’m a mother of 2 beautiful children, a boy (5 years old) and a girl (3 years old). I have been working full time for McGill for over 11 years. When I’m not busy with work or taking care of my kids, I enjoy boxing and kickboxing.
C: What do you hope to accomplish next in your current assignment?
JW: I’m happy with the way things are right now. I think that everything is well in its place.
C: Any final remarks or comments?
JW: I just wanted to say thank you to Allison Gonsalves, Assistant Professor in DISE, who nominated me. I wouldn’t be able to my job well, if it wasn’t for her. She’s a great professor to work with and so easy-going. I also wanted to thank my AO. There have been many changes in our department and he’s always managed to keep every one of his staff his number one priority.
