Safety and Campus Closures – Know your Rights!

As you may know, most, though not all, downtown campus buildings are closed today and tomorrow (July 10 and 11), due to the dismantlement of the Lower Field encampment. We approve of McGill’s promise that staff in closed buildings unable to work remotely are allowed to stay home with full pay.

Are you worried about your safety working at McGill? Art. 36.07 of the MUNACA Collective Agreement and Art. 12 of Quebec’s Act Respecting Occupational Health and Safety guarantees you the right to refuse unsafe work. If you have reason to believe that your work is not safe, notify your supervisor immediately AND contact Ranjan Roy, Chair of MUNACA’s Health and Safety Committee, your MUNACA steward, or the MUNACA Office who can help you with next steps, including contacting the CNESST if necessary.

Your union is here to defend you and your right to a safe working environment. We encourage members to reach out to us anytime with any safety concerns at McGill.
