What do you like about being a steward?:
I like speaking with people. I think when it comes down to it, getting to know people, and how they think, and how it drives what they do, is the most interesting thing to me. Being a Steward is just an extension of this, but with the added perk of also being able to help out when/if the situation calls for it, and knowing that just by being me, and lending an ear, I can help and represent my colleagues, who are a wonderful group of people!

Personal info (a few words on hobbies, interests, or background):
Born and raised in a small dairy farming town in British Columbia, I attended University of the Fraser Valley, where I studied basic sciences, social sciences and agriculture. I’m an experienced propagation specialist and tree surgeon. I completed an undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University, majoring in French and doing a double minor in Sociology and Anthropology.

During my time at SFU, I participated in a formal exchange with Université de Grenoble III (Stendhal), hoping to share an Alma Mater with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. However, while working my way to a Diplôme d’études universitaires générales (D.E.U.G.), I discovered that none of my courses would be given credit upon my return, and so I blew the rest of my student loan money on traveling Europe until my visa expired! A valuable education in and of itself! I moved from BC to Montreal in Y2K, and from that time have been working at the Faculty of Medicine at McGill: first as a casual in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, then moved to a permanent position at the ever-growing and always-crazy Centre for Medical Education where I worked for 7 years.

I was poached by the Medical Simulation Centre in 2007, where I worked as the Coordinator for their Standardized Patient Program (actors), helping with various program OSCEs and the McGill Multiple Mini Interviews (M3I) for all medical school applicants. A whole other kind of craziness! Fresh off of 3 years of maternity leave, I began my new position as Research Coordinator in the Department of Family Medicine this past December. As the mother of 2 toddlers, working full time, and spending time at MUNACA, I am rapidly learning the truthism of the phrase “a rolling stone gathers no moss.” It also gathers no sleep, no free time, no regrets, etc., etc. …

Qu’est-ce qui vous plaît d’être délégué(e) ? :
J’aime parler avec les gens. À bien y penser, apprendre à connaître les gens, comment ils pensent, et ce qui les motive à faire ce qu’ils font, est le plus intéressant pour moi. Être déléguée est seulement un prolongement de ça, avec en plus, être aussi capable d’aider si/et quand l’occasion se présente, et sachant que juste en étant moi-même, et en étant à l’écoute, je peux aider et représenter mes collègues, qui sont un groupe de gens merveilleux! Infos persos (quelques mots sur des passe-temps, intérêts, parcours personnel): Née et élévée dans une petite ville d’agriculture laitière en Colombie Britannique, j’ai fréquenté l’Université de Fraser Valley où j’ai étudié les sciences de base, les sciences sociales et l’agriculture. Je suis une arboricultrice et une spécialiste de la propagation expérimentée. J’ai complété un bac à l’Université Simon Fraser (USF), avec une majeure en Français et une double mineure en Sociologie et Anthropologie.

Durant mes études à l’USF, j’ai participé à un échange officiel avec l’Université de Grenoble III (Stendhal), en espérant partager un Alma Mater avec Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Toutefois, en travaillant pour obtenir mon Diplôme d’études universitaires générales (D.E.U.G.), j’ai découvert qu’aucun de mes cours ne me serait crédité à mon retour, j’ai donc décidé de dépenser le reste de mon prêt étudiant à voyager en Europe jusqu’à l’expiration de mon visa! Une éducation de valeur en soi! Je suis déménagée de CB à Montréal en 2000, et depuis ce temps, je travaille à la Faculté de Médecine à McGill: au début, comme temporaire au Département de Microbiologie et Immunologie, et ensuite dans un poste permanent au toujours croissant et toujours fou Centre d’Éducation Médicale pendant 7 ans.

J’ai été ensuite sollicitée par le Centre de Simulation Médicale en 2007 où j’ai travaillé comme Coordonnatrice pour leur Programme de Patient Standardisé (acteurs), aidant à différents aspects du programme (OSCEs) et au “McGill Multiple Mini Interviews (M3I)” pour tous les candidats en médecine. Une toute autre folie! Fraîchement de retour d’un congé de maternité de 3 ans, j’ai commencé mon nouveau poste de Coordonnatrice de Recherche au Département de Médecine Familiale en décembre dernier. En tant que mère de 2 jeunes enfants, travaillant à temps plein, et passant du temps à MUNACA, j’ai rapidement appris la signification de la phrase “pierre qui roule n’amasse pas mousse”. Elle n’amasse pas non plus de sommeil, de temps libres, de regrets, etc., etc. …
